BUSINESS & OPERATIONS
Financial and Operational Support for Business Offices of Every Size
From budget forecasting to superintendent search, our retired administrators bring decades of Indiana-specific financial and operational expertise to your district.
Budget Forecasting
Make Financial Decisions With Three Years of Visibility
Changing legislation and unpredictable ADM counts make it difficult to know where your corporation will stand next year, let alone in three. Our team delivers monthly evaluations of revenue and expenditures for the Education and Operation Funds in a single readable spreadsheet, yearly comparisons for long term cash flow analysis, and an ongoing three year forecast for the Education Fund reconciled against IDOE 54 ADM counts each February and September. We also assist with annual staffing needs and costs, and remain available for meetings and calls. Larger corporations gain an outside professional verifying budget accuracy. Smaller corporations gain the support of an on site business manager without the full time cost.
Budget Preparation
Build Your Annual Budget on a Clear, Compliant Timeline
Budget season is a sequence of legal deadlines that leaves little room for error. We meet with the personnel responsible for your budget to chart a course of action, help develop a working timeline, assist in identifying and verifying the information needed to build the budget, keep the advertising process inside its legal windows, and review the 1782 notice issued by the Department of Local Government Finance.
Part-Time Business Manager
Add Financial Expertise Without Adding a Full Time Position
Corporations staffed with only a superintendent and treasurer carry a financial workload built for a larger team. Our experienced financial team members work with you one day a week, two days a month, or on whatever schedule fits. Engagements commonly include developing cash flows from three to five years of history and projecting change forward, reviewing DOE SA 542 ADM counts across all programs for the past ten years, reviewing ten years of 1782 notices and Form 9 filings, verifying current debt payments, reviewing circuit breaker information, and aiding in budget preparation. The result is a clearer picture for you and your board of the district’s financial future.
Capital Assets and Accumulated Depreciation Review
Enter Audit Season With a Capital Asset Listing You Can Defend
Capital asset records drift over time as items are purchased, replaced, and retired. We review and amend your Detailed Capital Asset Listing for insignificant items and disposals, determine the useful life of assets, calculate the beginning year accumulated depreciation balance and current year depreciation amounts, and cross check audit period expenses so every qualifying purchase is captured and added. Technology assets are reviewed and amended separately to produce the amounts you need for reporting.
Collective Bargaining
Negotiate With an Experienced Administrator at Your Side
A new agreement can carry consequences that are not obvious while it is being written. Administrator Assistance provides an administrator experienced in collective bargaining to consult with your team throughout the process, helping protect the corporation from unanticipated results and supporting a negotiation that works for both sides.
Superintendent Search
Run a Search Your Board Can Stand Behind
For many boards, hiring a superintendent happens once in a lifetime. We guide the process from beginning to end: meeting with the board to define the candidate you want, receiving and reviewing every application, setting and attending interviews, helping narrow to a top three, completing reference and background checks, and reviewing salary and fringe benefits against state averages. We can also write the superintendent contract, provide board and superintendent ethics training, and set up community meetings. Every level of service is negotiable, and we follow up with your new superintendent for a full year, including unlimited phone calls.
